Ariff’s relationship with the violin started when he was 11. It wasn’t love at first sight. In fact, the early days were stormy, as most relationships were. Thanks to a dedicated and patient teachers in school, he grew to enjoy performing for little school concerts and assemblies.

Love blossomed in 2016 during a trip to Austria when he discovered that he missed his violin. Since then, hardly a day would pass without him playing, even if only for a short while. His violin, fondly known as Karla, accompanied him to all corners of the earth.

Ariff is a member of his school orchestra and chamber group, playing first violin in both ensembles. In 2019, he auditioned, and was accepted into the PSO, playing second violin.

Accomplishments :

As a member of the school orchestra and chamber group, Ariff has performed at the following events :

  • 2016 – launch of “ Education is Great Britain” in Putrajaya

    2016 – Irish Ball, Kuala Lumpur

    2017 – HRH CamillaParker Bowles, Duchess of Cornwall’s visit to ISP to officiate the mawar wing 2017 – State banquet to honour the visit of HRH Prince Charles, Prince of Wales and launch of the

Queen’s Commonwealth essay competition

  • 2018- Remembrance Day celebration , Kuala Lumpur

  • 2019 – Desa Park City’s Hari Raya Open House

in addition to solo performances during various school assemblies.

Ariff is also a member of the Universiti Malaya Symphony Orchestra, playing second violin, and performed during the Malaysian Special Olympics 50th anniversary fundraising gala in 2018.

He auditioned for, and was accepted into the PSO in 2019 where he plays second violin.

Ariff’s participation in the performing arts was not confined to the violin. He had small roles in Oliver and Grease before landing the role of Javert in the school production of Les Miserables in 2018, and sang at the official opening of Plaza Arkadia, Desa Park City, and Desa Park City’s Hari Raya open house. He has landed the role of Uncle Fester in the upcoming school production of The Addams family.

During the Clazz music festival, Ariff upped his vocals performance a notch by singing evergreen songs such as “ autumn leaves” “ fly me to the moon”, and “ Girl from Ipanema” during the jazz jam sessions.

  • 2018 – bronze in the eurasia strings competition, Open Category , 17 years and under, Kuala Lumpur

  • 2019 – winner of the AIMS young musician of the year award, small ensemble category

Future plans :

Ariff plans to pursue music in university. He aspires to be a composer for media, as well as a soloist. Thus far, he has sat for, and obtained an 8 in GCSE music, and is currently doing music as one of his A levels subject.
