Hailing from Butterworth, Penang, Tan Yu Qi is in her 2nd Year, pursuing her Bachelor of Classical Music (Hons) from UCSI University, majoring in Classical Piano while minoring in Classical Cello. She is currently under the tutelage of Maestro Dr Victor Chan Wei Tuck (Piano) and Maestro Stephen Johnson – Tseu Tze Jie (Cello). She holds a Trinity College London ATCL Piano Diploma and ABRSM Cello Grade 8. Tan Yu Qi was once a guest player of the Penang Philharmonic Orchestra, collaborating with Classical Guitarist, Rafael Serrallet. She joined the SMJK Chung Ling Butterworth Chinese Orchestra & String Orchestra for 5 years and was the cello section leader during her senior year. During her position as the cello section leader, the orchestra has won numerous competitions. These competitions include; Festival Musik Kesenian Malaysia 2016 (Gold with Honor, Chinese Orchestra and String Orchestra category), 11th Yangtze River Delta National Orchestra Performance 2015 (The Best Performance Award), Penang Chinese Musical Instrument Ensemble Competition 2015 (Cello Ensemble Finalist & Silver Award), London College of Music UWL Music Performance Ensemble Recital Level (Distinction Award), 2nd Malaysia International Music Art Festival, 2015 (Gold Award in Chinese String Instrument Ensemble Category & Gold with Honor, highest scorer in Chinese Orchestra Large Ensemble Category).

Tan Yu Qi is currently a member of the UCSI University Chinese Orchestra and a valued member of the Philomusica String Orchestra under the tutelage of Dr Goh Chia-Chien, the youngest founding member of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. Tan Yu Qi  will be joining the Elements Chinese Orchestra which will be competing in the Chinese Orchestra Malaysia Competition 2019 in December. Being a curious and open minded musician, she has taken on many roles as both a soloist and accompanist in both contemporary and classical fields. Her experience includes but is not limited to, performing at; “Gioventù Danse Reve” Chinese Orchestra Concert 2016 organised by SMJK Chung Ling Butterworth Chinese Orchestra Chinese Orchestra at Dewan Sri Pinang, Chinese New Year Celebration Event at Sunway Velocity Mall and Ministry of Health Malaysia 2019, “Hey! Oldies” Music Concert 2018 alongside 7 Avenue Band organised by I Do Music Club, New Era University College, 49th Klang Music Festival, 2019, “à Genesis” Fund Raising Recital in collaboration with Clazz International Music Festival organised by Musicians Linkage at Deciso Music Studio, “Rhythm of the Aurora” Chinese Orchestra Concert 2019 organised by UCSI University Chinese Orchestra and iMelody Music & Arts, “The Journey of Love”, “The Color of Friendship”, “Into the Light” String Orchestra Recital 2019, organised by Musicians Linkage at Menara Ken TTDI. She also has performing experience at Jaya One, The School and Granite Kitchen & Lounge Bar in String Orchestra and Quartet form.
