Hailing from Kuala Lumpur, Hen Lit Ming is currently a third-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Classical Music (Hons) degree at UCSI University’s Institute of Music with a scholarship under the tutelage of Stephen Johnson Tseu Tze-Jie. Upon completing his degree, he performed as tutti cello and principal cello of the UCSI Symphony Orchestra. Lit Ming started learning the cello in the Galaxy Chamber Orchestra at the age of 7. As a student, he has also studied and attended masterclasses with Julie Dessureault, Elizabeth Tan Suyin, Simon Cobcroft, Florian Antier, Jacob Shaw, and Joshua Roman. In September 2022, Lit Ming participated in the Rondofest 2022 festival as an active participant, where he attended a masterclass with David Faber. In 2022, he is also a participant of the cello orchestra programme in the Cello Akademie Rutesheim in Germany.
Since the age of 18, he has been performing chamber music in the Philomusica Symphony Orchestra (PSO) of Musicians Linkage directed by Dr. Goh Chia Chien and has worked with international professional musicians such as Ergys Koni and Andrezj Grabiec. He has also been featured as a soloist with the Philomusica String Orchestra, performing Allegro moderato of Joseph Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 2 in D major. In 2020, he successfully auditioned for the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO).
Lit Ming is also a prize winner of competitions such as gold prize in the International Lanna Music Competition 2022 as well as gold prize in the solo category and silver prize in the ensemble category of the 2022 Harmony International Music Competition. In 2021, he participated in the 2021 Euroasia Strings Competition, in which he was awarded third prize. On the 26th of March 2022, Lit Ming successfully presented a solo cello recital in Bentley Music Academy of Malaysia with pianist Joshua Yee Lih Hern.
